Getting started

Which versions of SketchUp does Lookover run on?

SketchUp 2024 or newer, on macOS and Windows. Lookover is a desktop extension, so it doesn’t run in SketchUp for Web or on iPad.

On an older SketchUp, Lookover won’t load. You won’t see its menu or toolbar, and the Ruby Console says it needs a newer version.

How do I install it?

In SketchUp, open Extensions › Extension Manager, click Install Extension and pick the Lookover .rbz file. Lookover opens right away and asks for your key.

The download link is on the page you land on after signing up, and in the email with your key.

How do I update Lookover?

Follow the steps on the update page: download the latest version, uninstall the old one in Extension Manager, restart SketchUp and install the new .rbz. Your license key, settings and saved reviews carry over.

Where do I find Lookover in SketchUp?

Under Extensions › Lookover: Review model and Settings…. Settings holds your license key and the options for saving reviews in the model file and sharing finding feedback; Past reviews is a link in the Review model window. There is also a Lookover toolbar with one button that starts a review.

On macOS, SketchUp shows extension toolbars as a floating palette, and dragging the palette onto the main toolbar does nothing. To put the button in the main toolbar, open View › Customize Toolbar and drag the Lookover button from the palette into the toolbar. SketchUp remembers where you put it. On Windows the toolbar docks like any other.

Where do I enter my license key?

The first time SketchUp starts with Lookover installed, it asks for your key. Paste the key from the page you saw after signing up, or from the email we sent.

To change it later, use Extensions › Lookover › Settings…. Lookover checks the key when you enter it and shows your plan and how many reviews are left. The key is stored on this computer only.

Reviews

What does a review check?

A review has two parts, and both feed the same list of findings. The first is a set of deterministic checks that don’t use AI. They look for things like reversed faces, geometry doubled in place, stray edges, copies that should be components and materials nothing uses. You get these results even if the AI part of a review fails.

The AI review then looks around the model, takes its own screenshots and measures things before it reports. It looks at what makes the file heavy, at parts that float, overlap or don’t add up (stairs and rails, for example), and at how tags and scenes are set up.

When you start a review you can write a note about anything you want looked at closely, like “check the stair geometry”. Say what the model is for and the review adds matching checks: 3D printing (solid parts, wall thickness, size and units), drawings in LayOut (scenes and cameras) or woodworking (parts you can cut and assemble). Lookover also picks these up from the model itself.

How long does a review take?

Usually a minute or two. Large models take longer. A progress window shows what the review is doing. A review that runs for 20 minutes is stopped, and doesn’t count.

Do I need to be connected to the internet to run reviews?

Yes. The AI part of a review runs on our servers, so Lookover needs an internet connection to run one. Past reviews saved in your model open without a connection.

What counts as a review?

One run of Review model. A review that stops with an error, or that you cancel, doesn’t count. Neither does starting one on an empty model, nor fixes, reopening past reviews, or checking your key.

Does it work on very large models?

Yes, though very large models get a lighter review. Lookover never sends the whole model, only a summary, and for models with hundreds of thousands of faces that summary gets shorter. Above about 2.5 million faces it skips the screenshot. The AI then looks up the details it needs.

If a model is too large to send at all, the review stops with “This model is too large to send for review.” and it doesn’t count.

Where are past reviews kept? Can I turn that off?

Each review is saved inside your .skp file (the last 50), so it travels with the model. Open the newest one with Extensions › Lookover › Review model › Past reviews. An unsaved model has to be saved for the review to be kept.

Past reviews are view only. Fix it buttons only appear right after a review runs. To stop saving reviews into model files, untick Extensions › Lookover › Settings… › Save reviews in the model file.

Will a review change my model?

No. A review only reads the model. Your model only changes when you click Fix it.

Saving the review into the file adds one undo step named “Lookover: save review”. Your own earlier edits stay where they were on the undo stack.

Fixes

Where do the fixes come from?

We wrote and tested the fixes for the deterministic checks ourselves. They find what to fix in the model at the moment you click.

For AI findings, the AI picks from a set of standard fixes we wrote, such as assigning a tag, moving an object or flipping faces. Our server checks every value, and a fix can only touch the objects the finding names. Once in a while a fix is custom code instead. Lookover marks it “Written by AI” and checks the code for anything unsafe before it runs.

Not every finding has a fix. Some are things only you can decide.

Can I undo a fix?

Yes. Each fix is one undo step: press Cmd+Z (macOS) or Ctrl+Z (Windows). The findings window notices the undo and marks the finding as not fixed again.

If a fix finds nothing to change, it says so and leaves your model and undo history as they were.

Why does a fix say “The model changed since this review”?

AI fixes act on the objects the review named. Before one runs, Lookover checks those objects are still where the review saw them. If you moved, edited or deleted them since, the fix won’t run, so it can’t act on the wrong object or move something twice. Run the review again to get fresh fixes.

Vetted fixes for the deterministic checks look for their targets again when you click, so they stay available after you edit.

Will a fix delete anything without asking?

No. Any fix that erases, explodes or purges something asks you to confirm first. Either way, it’s one undo away.

Plans and billing

What do the plans include?

Free gives you 2 reviews a month, no card needed. Pro gives you 30 reviews a month for $19 a month or $179 a year. Both plans get every check, the AI review and every fix.

When do my reviews reset?

Free reviews reset on the 1st of each month (UTC). Pro reviews reset each month on the day you subscribed. The yearly plan works the same way, with 30 reviews each month. Switching between monthly and yearly doesn’t reset your count.

Extensions › Lookover › Settings… shows how many reviews you have left and when they reset.

How do I upgrade from Free to Pro?

Open Extensions › Lookover › Settings… and choose monthly or yearly under Upgrade to Pro. Checkout opens in your browser, and Lookover picks up the change once you’re done. Your key stays the same, so there’s nothing to paste.

You can also buy Pro on this site with the same email. Pro is added to your existing key.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, in the customer portal (also Manage plan in Lookover's Settings). Sign in with the email you bought with and Polar will email you a code. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for, then your account carries on as Free. You can switch between monthly and yearly there too.

Who handles payments, tax and receipts?

Polar is our merchant of record, so it handles checkout, sales tax or VAT, receipts and refunds. To ask for a refund, email support@lookoverreview.com.

What happens if a payment fails?

Your key drops to Free (2 reviews a month) until the payment goes through. Update your card in the customer portal and Pro comes back on the same key. Your key never changes because of billing.

License keys

I lost my key.

Use Email me my key (also in Lookover's Settings) with the email you used at checkout. If that email has a Lookover key, we send it there.

I have a new computer, or more than one.

Install Lookover and paste the same key. The key is stored per computer, and reviews on every computer come out of the same monthly allowance. Remove key from this computer in Lookover's Settings takes it off a machine you no longer use.

Someone else has my key. How do I reset it?

Every key email has a Reset key link. It asks you to confirm, then replaces your key and emails you the new one. The old key stops working with “This key was replaced. Check your email for the new one.” Your plan and usage carry over. If you can’t find a key email, use Email me my key to get a fresh one.

Can I share my key?

Anyone with your key uses your reviews, since a key is one monthly allowance. The terms cover who may use a license. If a key got out by accident, reset it.

Privacy and data

What is sent to your server?

Not the .skp file. A review sends a summary of the model’s structure (groups, components, tags, materials, their names, counts and sizes), a few screenshots, the results of the read-only queries the review runs, your note and what the model is for, plus your Lookover, SketchUp and operating system versions.

It also sends the findings you dismissed, marked helpful or fixed in earlier reviews of that model (title, message, the reason you picked and a few object names), so the AI doesn’t raise them again. To stop that, untick Extensions › Lookover › Settings… › Share finding feedback.

Is my model used to train AI?

No. The AI runs through OpenRouter with data collection denied on every request, so requests only go to providers that don’t log or train on them.

What do you keep?

Our database keeps a usage record for each review (when it ran, whether it finished, how many findings), not your model. The review itself is saved in your .skp, which you can turn off. Details are in the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

“Can’t reach the Lookover server” or “The review took too long”

Check your internet connection and click Try again. Large models can take several minutes. Your model was not changed, and a review that fails doesn’t count. If it keeps happening, click Copy details and email them to support@lookoverreview.com.

Keep the model you’re reviewing in front. If you switch to another open model mid-review, Lookover cancels the review so it doesn’t read the wrong one.

“The model changed since this review”

You edited the objects an AI fix would act on after the review ran. Run the review again for fixes that match the model as it is now.

“Update Lookover”

Your copy of Lookover is too old for the server. Follow the steps on the update page to install the latest version.

My key is refused, or I’ve run out of reviews.

Lookover opens its Settings with the reason. A key that was reset says so; check your email for the new one. When you’ve used your reviews, it says when they reset and, on Free, offers the upgrade.

How do I contact support?

Email support@lookoverreview.com. If a review failed, include the text from Copy details.
